Senior Timeline
This Senior Timeline gives you important information and deadlines for each month until Graduation!
August
- If you have your college choices narrowed down at all, check their admissions requirements to see that you are registered for or have taken any entrance exams they require—ACT, SAT, SAT Subject Tests, ACT with writing.
- Counselor will meet with all seniors this month.
- Begin checking the scholarship web page under "High School Information" on the ERHS website.
- Sign up for the ASVAB with your counselor if you are interested in the military.
- Sign up for Remind to get senior information.
September
- Finalize your list of reasonable choices. Include at least one “long shot”, one “target”, and one “safe” school. Your first choice might very well be a school to which you are a likely candidate for admission. However, each one of you should include at least one safe choice on your list of colleges.
- Once you have narrowed your list of colleges to a minimum of 3or a maximum of six, you should begin applying online.
- Visit with college/trade school or military representatives who visit ERHS.
- Study for the ACT to raise your score - go to act.org for free practice tests - Seniors will retake the ACT in Oct.
- Attend Robertson County college fair in September.
- Begin work on application essays. Have your English teacher proof your essay.
- Remember that the grades you make this semester will be an important ingredient in the way college admissions committees view your academic seriousness. Your first semester grades will be the last ones they see before deciding whether to admit you to their school.
- Keep your commitment to take challenging courses! Your senior year matters!
- Turn in Early Graduation paperwork to graduate in December (see counselor for packet).
- Order your cap and gown from Jostens.
October
- Please do not push deadlines. It is to your advantage to file your application early. Most colleges admit that early applications automatically receive more attention because they demonstrate the student’s sincere interest in a school.
- Early decision deadlines and scholarship deadlines may be as early as October 15. Do not allow lack of planning on your part to create an emergency on our part. Submit your Transcript Requests (located outside my office) two weeks before the deadline .
- The college to which you are applying may require official copies of your test scores. Some schools require test scores submitted directly from ACT/SAT. Check the websites of the colleges to see what they require.
- Attend required TN Promise meeting in January (during school hours).
- Apply for the TN Promise www.tn.promise.gov.
- Send your high school transcript for each college/trade school application you submit. *Email Ms. Stephens to request transcript - be sure to include the admissions address.
- Attend FAFSA Frenzy night- if you and your parent want help filling out your FAFSA. You and 1 parent will need a FAFSA ID to sign your FAFSA (https://studentaid.gov/fsa-id/create-account/launch). Be sure to get your ID before you are ready to fill out your FAFSA. Complete and file your FAFSA as soon as possible in January. FAFSA’s web site is http://www.fafsa.ed.gov.
November
- Teacher Recommendations – If the colleges to which you are applying require a recommendation from a teacher, choose and ask a teacher who you feel knows you the best and will represent you well. ALLOW AT LEAST 2 WEEKS TO COMPLETE A RECOMMENDATION FORM. Be sure to give the teacher your resume or a list of your accomplishments to include in your recommendation.
December
- If you expect your counselor to write an effective recommendation for you, then allow sufficient time to process your recommendation.
- Ace your mid-term exams—they matter!
- Don’t ask to drop challenging courses. Colleges could withdraw their offer!
January

- Don’t develop Senioritis! All college acceptances are conditional pending receipt of final transcript after graduation.
